Fire: Read the Fire Department’s restrictions on fires, fireworks and equipment.
Traffic Safety: Beware of horses, deer, cyclists, and farm vehicles. In summer, beware of speeding on Lacon road (50 km/h limit) and East road (60 km/h limit).
Horses:  Pass wide and slow. Call out if cycling. On trails, cyclists yield to horses.
Deer. If you kill or injure one, call the Deer Response Team: Peter Karsten (-335-1640), Dean Heyland  (218-4534), Peter Janes (897-8540), Kris Christensen (335-3225), and John Isbister (897-4238). Other wildlife: Mike Nestor (218-0782).

Trash
: Use the Recycle Centre and Bottle Depot. Garbage pick-up 2019 schedule. Here’s what you can recycle.  Please don’t litter.
Dogs: Canines must be leashed or under full control of owners (please pick up after your dog). Call Chris Danks about dog concerns 335-1838.
Driving on beaches: This damages marine life. High tides may swamp your car.
Public toilets: Find portables outside the Hardware store, at the sports field behind the Community Hall, and at the Recycle Centre; flush toilets in the ferry terminals; and pit toilets at the Boyle Point, Sandy Island, and Fillongley parks.
Food: Eateries close early pm, except summer and weekends. See current hours for The Guesthouse Bistro and the Shack and Wagon. Groceries and fresh produce are  available at the General Store: current hours. Buy fresh produce and snacks at the Saturday Market (9.30-12.30 summer), and eggs and fresh at roadside farm stands.
Water: Protect the aquifer that supplies our drinking water. Avoid pesticides. Do not pour harmful liquids (e.g. oil, gasoline, paint) on the ground. Buy potable water in plastic barrels at the General Store.
Swimming: our two lakes supply drinking water to nearby households. Please do not use sunscreen or otherwise pollute them. Ocean swimming is dangerous at Scott road due to underwater metal spikes installed by the shellfish industry.
Accommodation: Short-term vacation rentals (e.g. cottages) are not allowed by the Island’s bylaws. See BnBs currently listed on our visitor website. The Guesthouse has single, double, and family rooms. Camp at Fillongley Park.
Fuel: The General Store sells gasoline and fills propane tanks. EV chargers (Tesla and J1772) are available at the Community Hall.
